Spirituality, or being spiritual, is a term used quite frequently, but what exactly does it mean?

Spirituality  is a broad concept with room for many perspectives. In general, it means having an attachment to matters of the spirit, rather than material or worldly interests.  It includes a sense of connection to something bigger than ourselves, and it typically involves a search for meaning in life. As such, it is a common human experience—something that touches most of us. People describe a spiritual experience as sacred or transcendent or simply something deep that cannot easily be described.

Many may feel their spiritual life is intricately linked to their association with a church, temple, mosque, or synagogue. Others may sense a personal relationship with God or a higher power through prayer or deep meditation.  It is thought that continued spirituality can lead to higher levels of conscioiusness.

Many may experience being spiritual when you listening to a beautiful piece of music, looking at an amazing work of art, or reading an inspirational book or poem. You experience spiritual moments when you walk through the woods and connect with nature, walk along a beautiful beach, or when you see the sun set.

These things only become  spiritual when you are so immersed in the experience you   "lose yourself". When your sense of self, the ego, fades, the spiritual grows and you feel, to a degree,  in touch with creation itself (i.e.God).

Signs of a spiritual individual

He does not care what other people think about him  He no longer worries and stresses over things like social reputation, popularity, and peer-approval, because his sense of identity comes from something deep inside.  Heseems to have a trust in the Universe with little room left for fear.

He seems to have no fear of death or the future and has this intuitive wisdom that somehow, everything in life is unfolding  the way it needs to. He accepts life as it happens, but sees no harm in playing the game that life presents.

He becomes more interested in the pursuit of knowledge, wisdom, and experience.  Going out and getting hammered every weekend no longer appeals to him, and he says the ways he used to spend his spare time now seem useless and redundant. He may begin to distance themselves from family and old friends for his no longer has anything in common with them..

He likes to spend his time in discussing deep spiritual matters, going on adventures, meditating, or working in creative activities..

Spiritual awakening is about self-realization.  Realizing that you are not a gear in a huge social  machine.  Realizing that you are a small expression of the Infinite.  Realizing that you are part of something timeless, eternal, and non-physical.  As you begin to recognize what you are, you become illuminated. You see connections you did not see before. You sometimes seem psychic.

Though others do not seem to understand you, you are happy most of the time
