Many say this subtle life-force body sustains the life of the physical body, and serves as the mold or matrix for physical metabolic functions. Others set this idea aside and say that the etheric body is the result of the interchange between the physical and astral bodies, much as a rainbow is the result of the interchange between sunlight and water vapor. The term "etheric body" has several different meanings in the English language.
1: a high or even the highest spiritual body, there is the fact that even as the body of formative force or auric energy there is
2. any or all of the vayu (prana / ch'i / life-force) bodies
3: any of the dense or obvious prana / ch'i / life-force bodies (exclusive of the emotional, mental, spiritual, etc)
4: the lowest of the prana / ch'i / life-force bodies (the "lower etheric" in other words)
