The Bible is the single most powerful book in the world,

not because of what it says, but because of what people

believe about it. See what the New Age has to say.

SOME THOUGHTS

If God is the author of the Bible, and everything God does is perfect, why does the Bible need any explanation - can't God write clearly?

If God is not the author of the Bible, then what authority does it have? And why?

If the Fundamentalist Christians believe the Bible is the True Word of God, why do they feel it needs so many televangelists to explain it and so many books to make it clear?

What do you think of homosexualityexplained.com?

A: Noisy people who erroneously call themselves Christians, have created a god in their own image.  They are obsessed with sex -- they think about it all the time, so they think that God is also obsessed with sex..  They think that God's primary concern is what we do with our genitals.  They are wrong. In the Old Testament, most of the laws about sex were concerned with  heredity - a few with propriety.  The laws about adultery only applied to married women, never married men.  They were concerned with being certain who the father was, so that no one inherited property who was not the true heir. The few laws about sex that were not concerning inheritance, were reflections of the the mores of the day and were of no more import than how many feet you should walk on the Sabbath or whether you should mix milk and meat or wear clothes made of mixed fibers.  Since we all violate the other rules, (we travel more than two miles on the sabbath,  we mix meat and milk in our foods, and almost all of our clothing is mixed fiber ) why should we pay any more attention to whether or not we have sex with a member of the same sex or whether we wear the same clothes as the opposite sex?  Since these so-called Christians have so filled their minds with sexuality, they naturally pick those rules dealing with sex and ignore the other rules. There is nothing more I can say about homosexualityexplained.com, or any other sexually-obsessed writer, than to say that they are crazy.. Luckily for them, God doesn't hold their obsession against them.

Q: Who wrote the Bible?

A: The Bible is a compilation of many books by many authors.  Genesis was written by a number of authors - Moses, at best, was merely the compiler, if he even did that. The first chapter of Genesis was compiled from at least two different sources. After the Children of Israel got settled in the Promised Land, many books were written.  Samuel (1000 AD) took these books and edited them and compiled them into Joshua, Samuel I & II, Judges 1&II and Kings 1&II. About 700 years later Ezra, took the many books that had been written in the mean time and selected a few to be part of the new canon of literature.

The New Testament was written anonymously, except for Luke and Acts which were compiled by Luke, Mark which was written by the prince known as Mark, most of the letters of Paul which were written by Apollonius (then they were thoroughly edited.)

Q: How did Jesus die?

A: First, we have to establish WHICH Jesus are you speaking of. If you are speaking of the historical Jesus, it is likely that he was crucified by the Romans for treason. If you are speaking of the Jesus in the New Testament, he died of suicide. He said, "Therefore doth my Father love me because I lay down my life that I might take it  again, No man taketh it from me but I lay it down of myself.  I have power to lay it down and I have power to take it again. (John 10:17)

Q:  Who was Melchizedek?

A: Melchizadek is not a name but a title, Lord of Righteousness, i.e. High Priest.  The Book of Jasher informs us that the first Melchizadek (though some translations say Adonizedek - same meaning)  was Shem, the son of Noah. Abraham was Shem's, great, great,, great, great, great, great, great, great grandson. According to the Bible, Shem lived 502 years after the Flood, and. Abraham was born 213 years after the Flood. Since Abraham lived to 175, Melchizadek out-lived him. If you don't believe these chronologies, then this is just an abstract exercise, but interesting anyway.

Q: What is the Book of Revelation?

A: The Book of Revelation is a hodgepodge of Jewish Messianic  and Christian mystic writings.  It has several authors and it evolved over a period of perhaps a century and a half.  At the root of it, we have the majority of the first few chapters, which is a letter written by Judas Iscariot to the seven major Jewish synagogues, asking them to support his anti-Herodian movement in Jerusalem.  To this was later added a lot of mystical Christian writings.  The entire work was almost eliminated from the New Testament in favor of The Shepherd of Hermas, but politics prevailed and we got stuck with it.  An interesting side-note.  666 was added later.  The best evidence is that the original number was 616.

Q. I have a question. Where does it say " follow your heart" in the Bible?

A. I cannot find that phrase anywhere in the Bible.  The Bible tells us to "follow the gospel" and "follow the voice of God", but nowhere are we told to follow our heart.  This is a modern idea created by televangelists who want their audience to "follow their heart", in other words, to follow their emotions and give, give, give.

Q: What about Jesus?   Anonymous

A: Jesus and the Devil  are the two elements that separate traditional Christianity from the rest of the world. Let's leave Satan alone and discuss Jesus. There are two Jesus' in the New Testament. One is the (possibly historical) rebellious, anti-establishment leader of a group of Jews. Two is the most likely mythical lover of Christ who completely surrendered to Christ, became possessed of Christ and henceforth spoke as Christ.  The two personalities became one, known as Jesus Christ.  Since these two Jesus' are so difference, they created a division among the believers that was not bridged until the fourth Century Council of Nicea.  Even today those who call themselves Christians, i.e. followers of  Jesus, tend to take one of these two positions. either Jesus was the Messiah, a Jewish figure, who overthrew the old and instituted a new religious system -- or he was an archetype of all who would surrender themselves to God. Often the two are combined.
